A LEED gold, smart building that utilizes cutting-edge green technology for maximum energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

A four-storey, 170, 000 sq. ft. facility is a state-of-the-art library and resource center serving the 10,000+ students and community.

The building is lit using the latest LED lighting technology coupled with a Digital Addressable Lighting Interface control system. The DALI system connects each fixture to a network, allowing the user to dim or turn off lights on a per-fixture basis. Daylight harvesting and occupancy combination sensors were placed in strategic locations throughout the Library.

The design is focused on the student learning experience. There are multiple learning spaces with the latest integration technology, as well as two highly innovative areas: Speaker’s Corner and the 3D Visualization Lab. Speaker’s Corner consists of a large video wall complete with leading-edge audio video technology. The video wall consists of thirty video screens all working in sync together, with the ability to work independently of one another, creating a stimulating area for students to learn and for users to organize unique and compelling events.

A wall-mounted touch panel allows all the lights to be controlled individually via the DALI lighting system for local control while still keeping the fixtures on the same base building schedule as the other fixtures for user consistency and minimizing energy usage.

All campus common systems were connected back to their respective MRU campus backbones for full integration and monitoring by the main campus operations team. If the building power feed is interrupted, a 400kW emergency generator is activated, powering all critical systems for the Library and allowing its members to evacuate the building safely.
